Starting To Get Tomatoes!

I'm so excited!  I checked on the garden and saw 3 little tomatoes starting to grow on the plants.  I can't wait until they are ready to eat!  There's nothing like a fresh, home-grown tomato.  It makes the store-bought tomatoes taste like soggy cardboard.

I am growing three types of tomatoes this year: beefsteak, cherry and a purple tomato.  I've never grown purple tomatoes before.  It will be interesting to see how they taste.

I Had To Make A Garden Fence Because Of The Chipmunks

We had to put a small fence around the garden.  A chipmunk got in and ate half the broccoli and lettuce plants.  We used the mesh that protects the trees to make the fence.  It is only about 1 1/2 feet tall, but this fence has made a huge difference!

We still have 3 broccoli plants left.  One is starting grow broccoli!

More Plants In The Garden!

We checked the weather for the next 10 days and it looks like it will be beautiful.  I was so excited to plant more plants in my garden. We went to Lowes and picked out three tomato plants, two pepper plants and some marigolds to keep the bad bugs away.  We will still need to cover the garden bed if there is a frost, but I am so excited to be starting my full garden.

We planted Cubanelle and Red Bell Sweet Peppers.  For tomatoes, we planted Husky Cherry Red, Beefsteak and some sort of purple tomato.

I am going to put a picture of my garden up here each week to keep track of the progress.  So far, it's looking good.  I am growing Brussels sprouts, onions and lettuce.

My New Box Garden!

My husband made my new box garden and I couldn't be happier!  I can see it from most windows on the back of my house.

I planted 3 different plants:  onions, baby broccoli and buttercrunch Bibb lettuce.  This will be my Spring garden.

I was worried that they would die during the overnight frosts, but they are holding their ground.

Spring Is Almost Here!

It's almost that time again!  The birds are singing.  The trees are starting to get their leaves and buds.  The grass is starting to grow again and I am starting to plan my garden out again!  I am so excited to start picking out plants again and watching them grow.  I miss the smell when you pick a freshly ripe fruit or vegetable off of the plant.

I have been growing my plants in my container garden for the past few years due to space and limited time, but now we have the space and the time.  I think I will even be able to get my kids to help!

I have been wanting another box garden.  I had one a few years ago and loved it.  Now I am watching the yard to find the spots that would let the plants get the most light throughout the day.  My husband is talking about building me a multi-tiered box garden.  I will take pictures when he is building it and throughout the year with the plants growing in it.

So far, I think I want to plant tomato, pepper, zucchini, a few beans, cucumbers, lettuce and a few herbs like mint, basil and rosemary.

I can't wait to get out there and start my garden!

Who else is ready?  What will you be planting?
